Language Act

The Language Act states that "The public sector has a particular responsibility for protecting and promoting Swedish sign language." This entails a particular responsibility to work actively to reinforce sign language by making it visible.

The National Agency for Special Needs Education and Schools has a special responsibility to protect Swedish language in general and Swedish sign language in particular. We do this primarily through our special schools and by providing educational support to schools with studying children, young people and adults who are deaf or have a hearing impairment. Our mandate also includes making sure there are opportunities to learn, develop and use Swedish sign language.
