Link lists

A Link list which you have made in Link-it Create can be shown in all computers which have the programs Link-it Create or Link-it Use.
Those who have created the Link lists have chosen an opening display, but the users themselves can choose between the many different ways there are to show and play back the links.
For many years we have produced bilingual teaching materials for deaf students in Sweden. We are now able to offer Link lists for working with comparisons between Swedish and Swedish Sign Language.
Download the Link List “Little Red Riding Hood” (127 Mb)
You can open it in the program Link-it Create Demo.
In the demo Link List “Little Red Riding Hood”, you can read the classic fairy tale in English and you can see the text translated into ASL.
In the “Little Red Riding Hood” the text is linked sentence by sentence with right links, which you activate by clicking with the right mouse button on the sentence in the text window or on the sign in the video window. In the same manner you can left click the words, or a part of a sentence, in the text that is marked in bold to get its equivalent in American Sign Language. You can also left click on a sign in the video window to highlight the corresponding word in the text window.
Since American Sign Language and English have different grammatical structures it is not possible to link every specific word to a specific sign. A sign can correspond to several English words, and sometimes it is the other way around.
If you click on a word in the text and see its equivalent in American Sign Language, it doesn’t necessarily mean that this word would be translated like this in every context. The comparisons are tied to the current context. It is not always obvious how words and signs should be linked. It is possible to choose other criteria for how to link the text. In spite of this, we believe that by exploring the text and comparing American Sign Language and English, it is possible to learn a lot about both languages.
