Adam´s Book

Deaf children in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany learn to read with Adam´s Book

Adam´s Book is a bilingual reading material in Swedish and Swedish Sign Language for deaf students who have just started school. The story is about a deaf boy and his friends in a school for deaf students somewhere in Sweden. In the 23 chapters the book consists of you will encounter text phones, eaten hearing aids, bullying, love and a lot of other things that make up the life of a deaf child. For many years, Adam´s Book has been used when beginning to teach reading in schools for deaf children in Sweden. Since the stories are both in Sign Language and Swedish the children can use their knowledge in Sign Language to learn Swedish. There is a teaching guide for Adam´s Book that supports the teacher when teaching bilingual reading.
